A workshop organized by Bloomberg Data for Health Initiative and Economic Commision for Africa on the use of business process mapping and enterprise architecture for strengthening of CRVS systems took place from 21 to 23 June 2016 in Kigali, Rwanda. It included participants in the Data for Health initiative (D4H) from countries throughout the Africa region and was facilitated by experts from (among others) D4H implementing partners – Vital Strategies, the University of Melbourne and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.
The purpose of the workshop was to introduce the basic principles of enterprise architecture (EA) and business process mapping (BPM) and to help participants develop the skills needed to apply this system analysis approach to CRVS systems. The training also aimed to facilitate understanding and usage of EA products and outputs in strategic planning processes in D4H countries. Participation in the workshop provided an opportunity to learn from and share experiences with countries in the region and to develop critical skills that should help guide decision-making as countries in the region continue to strengthen their CRVS systems.
