An Expert Group Meeting (EGM) to validate the draft Trainer’s Manual on the Production of Vital Statistics from Civil Registration Records was organized jointly by Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) was held from 30 May to 1 June in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The experts attending the meeting reviewed the Trainer’s Manual developed jointly by the two Commissions and the also the draft of the Template for developing a vital statistics report being developed by Statistics Norway.
The three-days inter-regional meeting brought a range of experts from 15 countries from the Asia-Pacific and African regions representing civil registration offices and vital statistics compiling offices. Representatives of APAI-CRVS Regional Core Group Members (AUC, ASSD Secretariat, UNICEF, UNFPA, WHO, INDEPTH Network) and other development partners (CDC, Bloomberg) as well as international experts on CRVS and development of training materials on related issues also attended the meeting.
During the EGM, both documents were presented by their authors and subsequently discussed in the plenary sessions and break-out groups. Invited experts commented on the template and the manual and recommended changes to enhance their content and structure. After this comprehensive review, the authors presented the summary of collected inputs whereas ECA and ESCAP shared their vision for the finalization and roll-out of the manual
